What to ask during a call
- “Read me my bank's lost-card number.”
- “What's the address of my hotel?”
- “Text me my hotel's address.” The text includes Google Maps and Apple Maps links.
- “Text my trusted contact that I lost my phone and need a ride.”
- “Connect me to my carrier's support number.”
- “Help me get a new phone.”
The assistant uses the details you've saved. For messages and calls, listen to what it proposes and say a clear “yes” to confirm. Say “no” or “wait” if it isn't right.
Connections and transfers both require clear spoken confirmation. An uncertain reply or a yes followed by “not now” does not start a call.
Call a business from a recommendation or itinerary. After phone sign-in, ask the operator to connect you to a business. Provide or look up its public source URL and number. The operator reads the business name, number and source before asking for a separate yes. Any other reply cancels; interruptions and expired previews require a new preview. Imported itinerary content never authorizes a call. You speak to the business yourself: no automatic booking or AI conversation. This uses the phone line, not a browser callback or chat call button. Failed calls are never retried automatically.
When the assistant connects or transfers you to a saved contact, the person who answers first hears a short introduction in English: that the call is from OperatorDirect, your name, that you lost your phone, and a few words on why you're calling. It never includes account numbers or anything from your vault.
Say “repeat”, “slower”, “hold on”, or “let me write this down” when you need more time.
On calls with live speech enabled, you can interrupt the assistant. If you interrupt a message or call confirmation, listen to the proposal again and give a fresh confirmation. If the voice connection changes, the assistant may ask you to repeat your request.
Save friends, neighbors, local services and taxis under People & places I call. The assistant can connect you to these saved contacts; they never receive messages.
To let your people know you're okay, turn on Send updates for trusted contacts with an email in your dashboard, then ask the assistant to send a status update. It reads the update and who gets it back to you and emails them only after you say yes. If recipients change, it asks you to confirm again. If one email fails, the other recipients are still attempted. The assistant tells you who the update was submitted to and who needs a retry. After you confirm again, retrying the same update skips recipients already sent the update. If email acceptance is uncertain, that address is not retried to avoid duplicates. Submission does not confirm that an email arrived or was read.
Persistent reachability and check-ins
Ask “What is Maya’s status?” in chat to see a trusted contact’s chosen update. They must first allow your signed-in OperatorDirect account to ask about their status. Email update permission alone does not grant access.
Change your status directly in the in-app chat. Try “Change my status to unavailable until 6 PM”. The operator asks about expiry and email notifications, shows the details, and saves only after you reply “yes”.
Open Your personal status in the dashboard to see your current report, its expiry in your home timezone, who can ask about it, and your email update recipients. This view refreshes every minute. Use “Update status with your operator” to change your report or sharing permissions in chat.
You can also set or clear your status and revoke a contact’s inquiry access right on that dashboard card. Saving there never emails anyone, and “arrived safely” can only be reported through your operator.
Say “Operator, I'm unavailable until tomorrow.” The operator clarifies the time in your home timezone, reads your status and expiry back, and saves it after a clear yes. Reports can last up to 30 days. Choose online, offline, safe, needs help, reachable, unavailable, unknown, or a custom status update of up to 280 characters on one line. Online and offline are chosen by the person, not automatic activity tracking. Explicitly say “I arrived safely” to check in. Status is user-reported, never independently verified. A trip ending does not prove safe arrival. After expiry, status is unknown; the operator never assumes you are reachable or safe.
Say “Allow Maya to ask about my status” to approve a trusted contact with their own OperatorDirect account at the phone number you saved. Listen to the account number and confirm. They sign into their own account, save you as a trusted contact, and ask “Is Jamie reachable?” Caller ID alone never grants access. Say “Stop sharing my status with Maya” to revoke permission after confirmation.
Family group. When you accept a family group invitation, the person who invited you is saved to your trusted contacts as “Family”, unless they are already there. You can edit or delete that contact like any other. Nothing of yours is shared until you tick Family next to an entry.
Dependents. In a family group you can add a dependent, such as a child or an older relative, who calls the line with their own number, PIN and passphrase but has no website sign-in. You choose and can reset their PIN and passphrase, you are saved as their trusted contact, and they hear what the family shares. Dependents cannot use website sign-in, including sign-in by phone, password reset, or phone account setup. If you leave the family group or remove them, their line is locked and existing calls lose assistant access to their Help Kit. Already-connected calls to other people are not hung up. Dependents always say their passphrase on scheduled callbacks; a guardian reset or re-add also requires full verification on their next ordinary callback. Only the original guardian can re-add the same number with new call secrets; their saved data is kept. Deleting the guardian's account leaves the dependent locked. Up to 5 active dependents per guardian.
When changing status, ask to notify your selected Send updates email contacts. The operator reads the status, expiry, and recipients back and sends only after your fresh yes. Inquiry permission and email notification permission are separate. These notifications describe your report, not verified safety. Failed or uncertain status-change notifications are not automatically retried.
If speech is not understood, you can repeat it, say “menu”, or press 0 for the saved-number menu. In that menu, say an option number (“option two”), category name, saved name, “repeat”, “more”, “menu”, or “assistant”; keypad choices still work. Unclear choices and repeats are bounded. Inside the saved-number menu, say “go back” to return to the previous selection step, “correct that” to clear a selection, or “start over” to return to the main menu. These controls keep you verified, require a fresh connection confirmation, and do not undo earlier actions or reset attempt limits. Recovery controls are limited to eight uses per call. Silence or an unrecognized choice in the saved-number directory gives a short prompt without restarting the menu. Say “repeat” or press 9 to hear the complete choices. Three consecutive empty inputs or three invalid choices end the call. An empty or low-confidence connection confirmation clears the selection; choose again before confirming. Spoken pinned-number choices always require a separate spoken connection confirmation. When several saved names match, the saved-number menu asks you to choose by full name or keypad number. Choosing a name does not connect a call; you still confirm out loud.
In voicemail review, say “record again”, “cancel” or “repeat”; sending still requires pressing 1. Website sign-in codes and outbound-call acceptance keys keep their existing safeguards.
If the assistant is down, the phone system tells you before opening the saved-number keypad menu. In that menu you can also say a saved name instead of pressing a key; you still confirm out loud before it connects.
After a failed call, you hear whether the line was busy, unanswered, canceled, reached an answering machine, or failed for an unknown reason. You can ask to try again, choose another saved number, leave a voicemail when offered, or do something else. No call retries automatically. A new attempt reads back the current destination and needs a fresh clear confirmation. After a failed call, even a pinned one-key shortcut asks for spoken confirmation. Unknown results do not establish a provider outage. If a request may already have started a call, further dialing stays blocked until its final status arrives; saved information remains available.

These saved-number menus work without the AI assistant. Choose a category, then choose a name to hear its number. Pinned numbers use keys 5–8 from the main menu. Within a long list, press 8 for more numbers. If you turn on One-key dialing in your Help Kit, a pinned number's key dials it immediately without a spoken yes; every other menu still asks you to say yes.
After a number is read back, say “Yes, connect” to call it (follow the equivalent prompt in your account’s language). A key press does not confirm a call. Private codes are not read in this menu. After the call ends or fails, you return to the menu. Press 9 to repeat, 0 for the main menu or star to return to the assistant.
