How OperatorDirect works

A walkthrough of what happens before, during and after a call, and who can see what.

A call, step by step

  1. Dial the lineAny phone works1-844-HELP-077
  2. KeypadYour number, then PINPress # after each
  3. Say passphraseAfter the toneSpoken, never typed
  4. Ask for helpIn your own wordsContacts, details, next steps
  5. Say yesBefore anything is sentOr a call is connected
Your operator never acts without your say-so.
1. Dial the line

Call from any phone, borrowed or not. No app or internet connection is needed on your end.

2. Enter your number and PIN

Type your account phone number and your PIN on the keypad, pressing # after each. The PIN is checked against a salted hash, and the check takes the same time whether or not the account exists, so the line never reveals which numbers have accounts.

3. Say your passphrase

Speak your passphrase after the tone. It is matched loosely against what you saved, because speech recognition rarely hears every word the same way twice. Repeated failures lock the line for 60 minutes and alert you by email and text.

4. Ask for help in your own words

An AI assistant (powered by Claude) answers using the details you saved: trusted contacts, bank lost-card numbers, travel plans, secure notes. It is an AI, not a human operator. Keypad shortcuts connect you to saved phone numbers (contacts, banks, travel providers and your carrier) without the assistant.

5. Confirm before anything happens

Texting or emailing a contact, transferring a call or connecting one all need a clear spoken yes. The assistant reads the action back first, and an unclear answer counts as no. The one exception is one-key dialing, which you can turn on yourself: pressing a pinned contact's key (5 to 8) on the keypad connects at once, so the key press is your approval. It cannot make payments or move money.

Your four secrets

What a conversation sounds like

You: “I lost my wallet. What's my bank's lost-card number?”

Operator: “Your Chase card line is 1-800-555-0100. Would you like me to text your sister Maya that your wallet is missing?”

You: “Yes, please.”

Operator: “I'll send: ‘Clinton lost their wallet and is calling from a borrowed phone.’ Shall I send it?”

You: “Yes.” Only now is the text sent.
